On college campuses across the United States, there is growing concern that incoming freshmen are not prepared for post secondary level course work.
 
The problem is big and growing according to Diploma to Nowhere, a study released in Sept. 2008 by Strong American Schools, a project of the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

With an uncertain economy and environmental concerns mounting, growing numbers of citizens and policy makers are calling for government assistance for developing “green-collar jobs.”
The U.S. Department of Labor has recently reported a significant rise in unemployment, which could add to the 12 to 13 percent of the U.S. population already living in poverty as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau.

A recent report reveals that one in 100 American citizens are currently behind bars.
The report, released by the Pew Center on the States’ Public Safety Performance Project in February of this year, goes on to echo the growing concern of public officials and sociologists about the economic, social and individual costs of mass incarceration.

Yavapai College students on the Prescott Campus who have children have some extra relief this fall after the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center opened on Aug. 21, 2007.
Ms. Vickey LaMotte, Del E. Webb center director, says the best way to describe the center’s function is to provide “early care and education.”  The DEW Family Enrichment Center is a place for over-extended parents to place their children while they are in classes or at work, but the word stressed by the faculty is “education.”
